Ceuta is a Spanish autonomous city on the North African coast on the Strait of Gibraltar with regular ferries connecting the city with Cádiz.
Morocco wishes to integrate Ceuta (along with Melilla) with the rest of its country which is the cause of much contention between Spanish and Moroccon governments.
The hill of Monte Hacho on which there is a fort occupied by the Spanish army dominates Ceuta and is believed to be a location of the southern Pillars of Hercules in Greek Legend
Modern Ceuta is a cosmopolitan city which until recently was administered as part of the Cádiz province.
