The Alhambra Palace can be seen it all its glory from the windows and terrace of the restaurant Mirador de Morayma in Calle Pianista, Albayzin, Granada.
This is a restaurant with lots of history. Plenty of class. A view to cherish. Efficent and friendly service. It also boats that culinary rarity in Andalucia - consistently good food, writes Vernon Grant.
Located off the cobbled pavements of the historic Albayzin area of Granada, you gain access to the restaurant by ringing the bell on the outside wall. When you enter you are in the grounds of one of the finest carmens in the City. Here it was that Morayma ,the wife of Boabdil (the last Nasrid King of Spain), spent her latter days. Exiled from her brief reign as Queen of Spain, she sat in this building staring out at the Alhambra Palace - a place she once called home. The structure of the building is much as it was in her day. For example the ladies restroom is a "loo with the view" of the Alhambra Palace.
The food served is excellent and, unless you spend lots on wine or champagne, it does not have to be an expensive night out. My last visit saw Nola and I enjoy a bottle of Alpujarran Rose, a good portion of Habas con Jamon, a Hojaldre Esparragos, a bottle of water and two delightful postres. The total bill was 50 Euros. When there is so much overpriced mediocrity on offer in and around Granada, I believe the Mirador de Morayma offers quality food and service at a very reasonable price. The superb views come free of charge! Unlike the woman after whom the restaurant is named, I hope its reign is a very long one. For me this is a ***** restaurant.
