We live in whats called a Spanish finca (origanlly a finca was/is a plot of land with a little house on it called an Almacen or Albergue (country house) When we bought it, it was supposed to have been re formed, ( anyone living here will know what we mean) it was to a certain degree but not how we saw it with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, lounge/diner kitchen and terrace with a pool on a plot of just under 5000m2. We saw so much potential but not half as much as we see now knowing what we now know! The house is situated in a little hamlet of about 10 other houses mainly Spanish weekend houses but all similar plots but different shapes and sizes. After 4 years of very hard work lots of dust and mess we have updated the property with all the mod cons we were used to in the UK like efficient electricity for starters ( thats another story) telephone and internet etc the list is endless but we now have a lovely 5 bedroomed and 5 bathroomed house a new pool and bar and terrace area, we have replaced windows and doors but keeping with the rustic style. Just the garden and some finishing to do now along with putting the last bathroom suites. We live in the countryside just 5 minutes from the town of Albatera with all its amenities which include a 24 hour health centre gym, indoor pool, shops supermarkets and restaurants schools for all ages football music school etc. We are 15 minutes from the beautiful city of Elche, the city of the palms and 25 minutes to Alicante airport and 30 minutes to the coast of Guardamar and La Marina. We ahve a train station very close which takes you in the direction of Murcia or Alicante. We have a mixute of neighbours both expats and Spanish everyone is freindly but the houses are set far enough apart to be private and no one really bothers anyone else too much unless there is a problem or there is a delivery of a box of the latest crop.
