What's your best bit of advice for people thinking of doing the same as you?:

LEARN Spanish.

What plans do you have for your future in Spain?:

I intend to stay until I have an appointment 6 feet under.

In your experience, what is the biggest mistake other people make when moving to Spain?:

The biggest single mistake is not doing enough (or any!) homework before they arrived.

Why did you decide to come here?:

Primarily health-reasons. The Spanish health service is MAGNIFICENT

What did you leave behind?:

Friends and a strong business network.

What work do you do?:

I work online and am active in many expat networks.

What made you choose this location? Did you know much about it before you moved here?:

I had been a regular visitor to Spain over 30 years. I always knew I would come to stay.

Tell us about the place you live? What's it like (a house, apartment, flat, etc)? What are your neighbours like?:

I live in a detached villa. I don't really see anything of "neighbours" but everybody seems to get on fine.

What's the best thing about where you live?:

I could say wireless internet but I guess I should say the health service

What have you learned about your area that you think other people should know?:

It's over-built and over-priced

Is there anything you're not so happy about?:

Life is perfect - mosquitos in the evening apart!

How important do you think it is to be able to speak Spanish?:

VITAL - no other comment

Do you miss anything from your home country?:

Nothing that is not recompensed for many many times over.

Do you have any regrets?:

That I did not come when I was younger

A 2km long stretch of unspoilt golden beach north of Torrevieja and just south of Guardamar del Segura. It has sun lounger rental and lifeguards but limited toilet/shower facilities.

This 700m semi-urban sandy beach is is a haven for divers and watersports enthusiasts.Situated north of Torrevieja in Torremalata off the N-332, it has toilets and showers and the sea has moderate swells.

This popular golden 700m blue flag, sandy beach is situated in the northern central part Torrevieja. A popular beach with good amenities. Further north are four coves with crystal clear water (without beaches) that you can explore on foot. They are: Cala Cornuda, Cala de los Trabajos del Palmeral, Cala del Combate y Cala Redonda.

This bustling 500m blue flag beach is situated right at the heart of Torrevieja. A fine, golden, sandy beach with calm waters and a central location makes this a very popular beach with all amenities you’d expect of a city centre resort.

This 400m blue flag beach is situated on the west of Torrevieja’s port. Its mixture of fine sand (with a rocky part in the south), calm waters and location next to Marina Internacional makes this a favourite location for fishing and watersports. Los Náufragos (The Shipwrecks) has lifeguards, sun lounger rental, snack bars,toilets and showers.

Torrevieja is a seaside city located in the province of Alicante in south-east Spain on the Costa Blanca. Originally a salt-mining and fishing village, due to its location between the sea and two large salt lakes (Las Salinas), in recent years it has become a popular destination for visitors and expats from the UK and northern Europe.

Alicante airport is about 40km north and the much smaller San Javier airport in Murcia is 25km to the south.

Torrevieja also has a large harbour for private yachts where small sight-seeing boats offer cruises around the coastline and trips to the nearby island of Tabarca. Torreviaja's nearest passenger port offering services to the Balearics is in Alicante.
