Torremolinos is a seaside resort in Andalucia and was the first of the Costa del Sol resorts to develop with the growing tourist industry in the late fifties.
Being right next to neighbouring Málaga and Málaga International airport the resort is extremely popular with British holidaymakers and expats who choose to make it their permanent home.
The maze of high rise developments that makes up much of Torremolinos has earned the town the unfortunate nickname of "Terrible Torrie", although local authorities have really cleaned things up in recent years with daily street cleaning and decorative planting.
The old fisherman's quarter (La Carihuela) with its pedestrianised streets makes a pleasant place to walk but the main reason people come here is to enjoy the Mediterranan beach which is fronted by an 11km-long promenade which you can reach by descending a set of long, steep, steps.
The Aquapark near the Palacio de Congresos is home to Europe's largest water-slide is worthy of a day out and proves popular with grown-up and younger "kids"!
