A strange thing happened the other night when I was at a friends house watching tv. After watching the first programme my son asked if we could change the channel to watch his cartoon - and asked if we could watch it in English.
´Of course not´ I said with a sigh as he looked at me confused. ´Why not?´ he insisted. ´Because we don´t have Sky TV of course´ I answered starting to wonder if he had forgotten we lived in Spain.
Then my husband put in his two pence worth saying ´but you are watching the telly in English!´. Now as he is the ultimate wind-up merchant, I took no notice. But with the two of them looking at me as if I had lost the plot, I thought back to what we had just been watching and realised I had just watched 20 minutes of Judge Judy - in English. (We only have Spanish tv at home).
For the first time in three years, my brain did not register the difference between English and Spanish.
Now I know I am truly bi-lingual!
