You may also know that Simon Harris (in between writing about the vagaries of football) has been busily writing a book for us about the region of Catalonia, with a (tongue in cheek) working title of Curiosity Killed the Catalans.

We saw his first draft last week and in between extreme laughter at his dry sense of humour, surprise at the varied history of the Catalan region and mouth watering due to the foody descriptions, we realised we had a great book on our hands.

 A Sensual Journey

Because of our protracted stay in UK and taking back the cava for the wedding we drove back to UK via Biarritz, Le Havre and Portsmouth. We travelled 2000 kms from door to door finishing with a total mileage of 5500 kms. Very easy driving with the two of us taking turns albeit expensive on French autovias.

The process of writing a book, even one where the subject matter is so close to your heart and you live and breath it every day, is exhausting. It can sometimes feel that your brain is a cement mixer with a load of big stones tumbling around. Each stone is an idea that needs building.

We went back to talking and savoring our fake ale in the fake tavern, a large
white tent quite possibly made of bedsheets, in a fake town whose borders were
marked by white police tape. All things considered, the notion that I was
Kendorian, or Spanish for that matter, wasn’t all that absurd.

If a troupe of cloak-wearing, tree-hugging role-players a
stone’s throw from California’s vegetarian
meccas (San Francisco, Berkeley,
Santa Cruz) couldn’t put together a vegetarian
meal in four years, I thought that in Spain, the land of ham, I was
surely doomed.
