Submitted by Yolanda Solo on Sun, 02/12/2007 - 00:17.Hello!
My name is Yolanda Solo and my book has just been published by Joe and Debs - so they are at the top of my christmas list this year!
I am an expat jack of all trades living in Huelva, Costa de la Luz. I do translations, property management, web design, freelance admin work - anything that is needed by the expats in the area.
Totally Bi-Lingual
Submitted by Yolanda Solo on Sun, 02/12/2007 - 00:03.A strange thing happened the other night when I was at a friends house watching tv. After watching the first programme my son asked if we could change the channel to watch his cartoon - and asked if we could watch it in English.
´Of course not´ I said with a sigh as he looked at me confused. ´Why not?´ he insisted. ´Because we don´t have Sky TV of course´ I answered starting to wonder if he had forgotten we lived in Spain.

There are many reasons why someone might want to learn
Spanish. Perhaps you are planning a holiday or business trip to a Spanish
speaking country or maybe you are thinking of emigrating. It could be that you
don’t really need to speak Spanish at all but you just want to say that you
can. Being able to communicate in another language certainly gives you a great
sense of achievement.

14-Espanyol Away
Submitted by Simon Harris on Fri, 30/11/2007 - 17:52.Tomorrow night at 10 o'clock. The first really big game of the season. The Barcelona derby - Espanyol-Barça at the Estadi Olímpic on Montjuïc.
13a-Champions League-Lyon Away
Submitted by Simon Harris on Thu, 29/11/2007 - 09:54.2-2 draw. No great shakes, but we're classified as top of the group. The big news, though, was Ronaldinho on the bench and Bojan, Messi, and Iniesta making up the the trident in attack. Food for thought.
Burial of the Sardine 2007, Madrid
Submitted by Miss Saavedra on Mon, 26/11/2007 - 19:57.
Men wander about in black 19th century ensembles
complete with top hats, abundant capes, and silver-topped canes. Women wear
gauzy mourning veils over their black dresses, gloves, and large hats. These
residents of Madrid’s
Manzanares de la Ribera neighborhood walk slowly in their funeral procession,
mourning the death of a beloved sardine. A sardine? Yes, a sardine,
ceremonially tucked into an infant-sized coffin. To the music of drums and
Gardens of Andalucia
Submitted by grantv on Mon, 26/11/2007 - 18:39.Gardens of Andalucia by Vernon Grant
Now that the height of the tourist season is over with, it is a good time to tour some of the splendid public gardens that exist in Spain. Do so in the generally sunnier climes of Andalucia and the chances are you will be warmer whilst doing so.
Tapas Time
Submitted by grantv on Mon, 26/11/2007 - 18:36.I doubt there is one cultural aspect of living in Spain that is more misunderstood than the concept of Tapas, writes Vernon Grant.
13-Recreativo Home
Submitted by Simon Harris on Mon, 26/11/2007 - 16:48.I've got no idea about what happened in this game apart from the result. Barca won 3-0. I was back in England for my Mum's 70th, which was great fun, but it was impossible to glean much information from the British press until Monday morning. Anyway, Madrid drew and Villarreal won so things are tightenening up at the top of the table. Might have some more thoughts for you once I've had a chat with Paco, who's from Huelva, tomorrow.

Taking Having Fun Seriously!
“Eh, hombres, enhorabuenas!” Miguel
El Gordo shouted at me and my husband Marcus, over the din of that night’s
“entertainment.”
